Breast Cancer Journal - Entry 21

NO MUTATION DETECTED

This is the result of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing I had done. Not only does this result in significantly lowering my chances of the breast cancer recurring, but it also lowers my chances of developing ovarian cancer later on. This also means that family members are not considered to be at risk of getting cancer.

Good news indeed!

On the Herceptin front, I've been getting treatments every three weeks. My oncologist said that she had been mistaken about the frequency of MUGA scans that should be done to check for heart damage and so now I am getting the scans done every other month instead of every month. I don't know if it's all in my head or I'm just getting used to the feeling, but my heart doesn't feel as bad as it has previously. I'm still trying to keep up with the exercise, so I have high hopes that my next MUGA scan will show my heart to be still in the safe zone.

Rita and I keep forgetting that about 2-3 days after every Herceptin treatment, I crash. I feel like I have the flu and I'm really, super tired. Yesterday, I slept all day, only getting up to drink coffee in the morning. I think I'm going to have to add 'Sleep All Day' to the calendar after each chemo session so we won't be wondering what-in-the-heck-is-the-matter-with-me-now every time. Being bald did have its positive points, one of which being that we never forgot why I was feeling awful after chemo...

Hi Kathleen! I am so glad that the genetic testing results were positive.
Now you can really put all your energy
into just healing now and having positive thoughts. You are doing a good
thing all the way around with your
exercising and I am proud of you for
staying motivated. It has been almost
a year now since you started the chemo
so it stands to reason you might forget
how you feel after each treatment. You
know how routine goes.

Received the "package" today and will
send out tomorrow for exchange. I think
I picked a nice comfy pair and hope you
like it but let me know. Will finish
Aidan's beanie and make it a foot long
to fold. He looks so cute in the pics.

Love you and take care!
