Aidan's First Report Card
Well, we received Aidan's very first report card in the mail yesterday. Rita said we're going to need to find a bigger house so our heads will fit if we get many more report cards like this one.
The Southwest Charter School report cards are written narrative format. Here's what Aidan's says:
Student Name: Aidan Snodgrass-Ward
Academic Year: 2007-2008
Grade: Kindergarten
-
Teacher: Mary Esterline
Principal: Sue Carter
-
Aidan enters the classroom cheerfully each morning. He is always eager to help write the morning message, read the poem, sing songs, and greet friends. He is a very capable reader and uses several strategies when he encounters a word he is unfamiliar with. He isolates the sounds and checks for meaning within the context of the story. He is a capable phonetic writer and is practicing using lower case letters. He enjoys writing stories to share with his friends. He has a good sense of humor and loves to make his friends laugh. He is always willing to participate in group activities, share his ideas, and is eager to try new things.
Aidan eagerly accepts calendar jobs. He is able to recognize and write numbers up to 20. He can count by 2's, 5's, 10's, and can recognize and create several patterns. He is beginning to do some adding on and subtracting and enjoys playing math games such as 'Which Bug Will Win?', 'Bug Bingo', and 'Beat You To 10'. He is capable of working independently, with a partner, or in a small group. Aidan usually wins our game of 'Guess My Number', actively listening to guesses and clues of 'lower than' and 'higher than'.
Aidan likes routine and encourages his friends to follow the rules but he is also able to transition from one activity to another easily. Aidan has a wide variety of likes and interests. He is very artistic and his drawings are very detailed. During choice time he often paints, uses the felt storytelling shapes, plays with friends in the housekeeping area, or works with blocks and trains. He also enjoys making up games to play with his friends at recess. Aidan is a very capable and enthusiastic learner. He is a kind, sweet, funny boy and a joy to have in class.

That's my nephew!!!!!
Good job, Aidan!
Love ya, Aunt Pam
Wow! What an amazing first report card! You might as well laminate this one since it looks like it's the first of many more to come. You both should be proud of the work and interaction you have with Aidan, and the 'one-on-one' is paying off. I like the '...encourages his friends to follow the rules...' The leader trait is rearing it's head, huh? He is our nephew you know.
Thanks for sharing this milestone in his life.
Take care and hugs and kisses!
Aunty Kathy

Love Ya
